Berkeley Bioscience Study Abroad (BBSA) support extraordinary CUHK students for oversea exchange at the University of California, Berkeley, and actively promote undergraduate research.

Application Process

Applications for the BBSA Program consist of multiple stages. Below are steps to guide you through the process:

Eligibility

To be eligible for BBSA, applicants are required to meet the following two criteria:
(i) major in one of six programme in School of Life Sciences (BCH, BIO, CMB, ENS, FNS & MBT). Year 2 or above Students with excellent academic standing or fruitful research experience are preferred.
(ii) Proficiency in English (IELTS >=7.0 ; TOEFL >=90) Add a description here.

The School of Life Sciences (SLS) will release the application details via email. Applicants are required to submit their application form, CV and other supporting documents before the deadline.

Interview

September

Applicants will have individual interview with SLS professor. Questions on your CV, study plan or research experience are expected. The application result will be announced within 1-2 weeks after the interview

Exchange Preparation

September – December

The staff from SLS and UC Berkeley will guide you through this process. Feel free to ask them any questions on visa application, housing plan, etc.

Application tips

BBSA Program aims to recruit students who have passion in science. Your academic achievements, extra circular activities like research experience and commitment to the society will be considered in the process. Therefore, we recommend applicants to gain some research experience during their studies in order to stand out. Since UC, Berkeley is one of the top public research universities in USA, it will be great if successful applicants can work in one of those research labs too. In the interview, applicants can try to impress the interviewer with your strategy to gain research experience at UC, Berkeley.
